SIMON’S PAINTED IMPATIENS EDITION
Impatiens was the first baby of any size born on our property. When we bought her mother, Jasmine, the breeder told us she was due to foal in late April or early May, but that time came and went… and weeks more passed. Worried, we took Jasmine to the vet, but due to her size he could not use the equipment properly to see inside her uterus. He told us that IF there was something wrong with the foal, it would be showing in the mare, and she looked very healthy. He told us that perhaps our breeder had gotten the dates wrong and then he told us we would just have to be PATIENT. Well, being patient is NOT something I am good at… but I had no choice! She was finally born on June 19th!
(baby pics will go here when I get them scanned)
I had decided to name a bay filly “Shasta”, a type of daisy, to keep with the “flower” theme we had started with Jasmine and Lily. However, knowing that there was a flower called “Impatiens”, well, there could be no other name for this darling filly. And the name fits well because she is also quite an “imp”!

After weaning, Impatiens and donkey pal Wyatt spent a couple of months with our friend Gary “Bad Dog” Bennett, rodeo clown extraordinaire and owner of Discount Tack & Saddlery, who taught them both some tricks. (By the way, Gary went to New Mexico for the 2004 rodeo clown competition and came home with the world title! Way to go, Gary!!!) Here you see Impatiens with Lindsey during a visit to Grandview Terrace, showing off her “beg” and laying down…
